Renaud Boyer - Mercurey Rouge 2024
France | Burgundy | red
Pinot Noir that doesn't need to whisper about elegance — it just has it. And a little bit of wildness on top of that. Mercurey Rouge 2024 by Renaud Boyer is Burgundy in its natural version, which still holds its shape, but is not bound by rules. The aroma is sour cherries, wild strawberries, a little spice, dried herbs and a slightly smoky line. The taste is juicy, energetic and beautifully tense, with a mineral skeleton and a slightly rustic detail that gives it character instead of sterile smoothness. A Pinot that is lively, not stylish. It will suit those who love the lightness of Burgundy, but want more emotion and less noble detachment. It is not a "fine dining only" bottle. It is more of a wine that disappears faster than you expect. Renaud Boyer works biodynamically, without chemicals and without unnecessary interventions in the cellar. The grapes are hand-picked, fermentation occurs spontaneously, part of the maceration takes place in the whole grapes and the wine is bottled without filtration and without added sulfur. The production of the 2024 vintage was also very small. Serve slightly chilled with roast chicken, mushrooms, steak frites or just for a long evening that was not planned. Burgundy with a pulse. Not a sleek museum piece, but a living thing.

Renaud Boyer, originally a trained engineer from Meursault, took over the winery from his uncle Thierry Guyot. Thierry Guyot was an organic enthusiast who had worked his vineyards completely chemical-free since the 1980s. The influence of legends such as Pierre Overnoy and Philippe Jambon motivated Renaud to work without compromise. The vineyards are divided between Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint Romain.
