Opéra Blanc 2023 is not a white that plays on pure primary fruitiness. This is a Chenin with atmosphere, texture and slow development in the glass. First impression? Citrus peel, quince, herbs, slightly smoky minerality and a subtle oxidative note that gives the wine depth instead of tiredness. Then comes the salty line, lively acidity and texture that almost feels layered. The wine is both energetic and calm — exactly the special balance that Robinot does so well. For people who like characterful whites without sterile smoothness. Not an instant crowdpleaser, but a wine that gradually gains attention and gets better with every minute in the glass. Robinot works spontaneously, without filtration and without unnecessary intervention. Opéra Blanc is made from Chenin from Loire vineyards cultivated naturally and matured in older oak barrels, where it gains texture and subtle complexity without a significant influence of wood. According to available information, the 2023 vintage holds a beautiful combination of freshness and more concentrated fruit. Great with baked fish, butter sauces, mature cheeses or a long dinner where there is no rush. Some wines are drunk. Opéra Blanc is listened to.

The story of JP Robinot is legendary among wine lovers. He fell in love with wine at a young age and moved to Paris, where he met pioneers of natural winemaking. He subsequently opened one of the first wine bars specializing in natural wines. In addition to the bar, he founded the leading French magazine on natural wines, "Le Rouge et le Blanc". It was only a matter of time before he started making wine himself, so in 2000 he left Paris and moved back to the village in the Loire Valley where he grew up. Jean-Pierre farms a total of seven hectares across two appellations: Jasnières and Coteaux-du-Loir, and focuses on just two varieties: Chenin Blanc and Pineau. d'Aunis. The vines grow on a mixture of red clay, limestone and flint and are organically treated, most often in the form of wild plants such as nettles and ferns. The vines are harvested by hand by Jean Pierre. Subsequent fermentation takes place in a labyrinth of ancient limestone caves under the vineyards. Thanks to the low temperature in the caves, the wines ferment very slowly.
