Comando G
Brand's website: Comando GComando G was founded by Daniel Gómez Landi and Fernando Garcia. Daniel and Fernando met in 2005 while studying viticulture and enology at the University of Madrid. Until then, they had both been involved in various wine projects, but thanks to their friendship, work philosophy and shared interest in wine, they soon decided to start a project together. “Comando G was born in 2008 with the aim of producing wines that reflect the place, the landscape and the identity of our vineyards.” In other words - “Terroir”. They decided to produce and classify their wines according to the Burgundian system of Village, 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines.
Their 15 ha vineyards are located in the most extreme villages of the Sierra de Gredos mountain range. This mountainous area is divided into three valleys. Most of the land is located around the village of Rozas de Puerto Real, where they produce La Bruja de Rozas, Rozas 1er Cru and the “Grand Cru” wine, Las Umbrías. This is the Tiétar River Valley. In the Alto Alberche Valley, they work on very old vineyards in the villages of Navarrevisca, Villanueva del Ávila and Navatalgordo. From these lands they produce “Grand Cru” wines for the Rumbo al Norte, Tumba del Rey Moro and El Tamboril vineyards.
The vineyards and plots are planted on mountain slopes at an altitude of 900-1200 meters above sea level, sometimes in extremely difficult to access places and are plowed by horse and many times only by hand. The vines are between 60-90 years old and in some cases they are without a crop. The farming is organic and we use biodynamic techniques in the viticulture.
The work in the cellar is traditional with minimal intervention. Whole grapes are used, followed by slow maceration, fermentation in open oak vats and maturation in various sizes of used oak barrels, demi-muids and foudres.
These are sensational, fresh, elegant and pure wines that are meant to reflect the unique terroir from which they come.
