IMMICH-BATTERIEBERG

Brand's website: IMMICH-BATTERIEBERG

The Immich family history in Mosel dates back to the Middle Ages, when Prince von Esch owned a 12th-century building. It is located in the center of Enkirch, and the original part of Escheburg Castle is named after him. The Immich family owned the estate for more than 500 years (1425–1989). In the mid-19th century, Carl August Immich needed more land on which to plant vines. His estate included the Enkirch slope, which was on the side of a hill and resembled a rock made of solid stone. Using sprengbatterien (batteries of explosives filled with gunpowder), he reduced the site to rubble between 1841 and 1845, which not only diversified it but also gave the vineyard the name Batterieberg ("demolition hill"). The winery is now run by Gernot Kollmann - one of the most followed winemakers in Germany.
