Priuere Saint Jean de Bébian

The story of the Prieuré Saint Jean de Bébian dates back to the Roman Empire, as the vineyard would have been a reward for winning many wars for the warrior Bébian. The estate was then sold to local monks who built a monastery (hence the name Prieuré) and a vineyard.
The property has been in the news recently for several changes of ownership – in 1991 it was bought by the former owners of La Revue des Vins de France, then, together with Domaine Ganevat in Jura, it was acquired in 2015 by Russian Alexander Pumpjansky and recently taken over by his long-time winemaker Benoit Pontenier.
Benoit is the talent behind the revival of this old winery, now made up of 19 hectares of old and young vines, all in a biodynamic regime. In the cellar, he hardly interferes with the wine, uses natural yeasts and does not filter the wine, which creates perfect harmony with the terroir.
